Neuro Muscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a method of treating acute and chronic pain patterns which incorporates specific manual soft tissue manipulation and also active release techniques and joint manipulation. Stretching and a home-care plan are usually advised to eliminate the causes of pain we encounter on a daily basis.

In your initial appointment I will take a case history and do an assessment as appropriate to determine the cause of your pain or dysfunction and then determine the best form of intervention for you.

What causes pain in the body? We have to look at all possible sources of pain and by that I mean not just either muscle pain or joint pain or ligament pain. In lower back pain for instance pain may come from the actual vertebral joint and a myofascial trigger point and ligament pain. If you don’t look and test for all possibilities you risk not getting the full answer and a less than adequate treatment and outcome.

Example – Lower Back Pain

You stand a much better chance of eliminating lower back pain from your life by augmenting your treatment with a spinal rehabilitation program, in fact any treatment must include this, and it must be tailored to your specific problem and re-dress the causes of your pain.

Patient Education. Any attempt to treat low back pain must include (in the opinion of leading researchers) some help for the patient to understand how to protect their back and keep it in good health – themselves. Research show spinal problems (causes of back pain) develop over time and if you don’t break these patterns damage will keep occuring.

What do I treat? This is a short list of more common problems

I specialise in treatment of Lower back pain including ‘sciatica’ whether it is of discogenic, muscular, radicular or ligamentous origin (or more usually a combination of more than 1 cause)

Neck and shoulder pain (including numbness or sensations or pain into the arm
TMJ pain (Temporo Mandibular Joint)(including Jaw or toothache pain where no dental cause canbe found)
Tension and Migraine Headache pain
Whiplash type injuries
Post surgical soft tissue problems and rehabilitaion e.g. Shoulder dislocation
Sports injuries – ranging from muscle tears to ligament tears, shin splints etc
